It was the Summer of Love in the Week of Levi's. After a successful Memorial Day event, the cast of Levi's-clad musical Hair, did a special performance in New York at Macy's Herald Square Flagship store. The cast was casual cool in a variety of denim styles and were having a great time belting out tunes from the Age of Aquarius. Must Wear.... at SXSW Part II

5) Must wear jumpers. Onesies, overalls and dresses; event-goers were rocking it out in jumpers of all styles. And when the traditional look wasn't available, fake it with suspenders.

6) Must wear denim on top. Denim jackets and shirts are set to make a mainstream comeback and SXSWers just added a period to that statement.

7) Must wear flirty skirts. Unapologetically flirty, super feminine dresses and skirts were a surprisingly light edition to all the hard core denim seen throughout festival.

8) Must wear 80's style, acid-washed, brightly colored, above the knee, pencil skirts! Or shorts.

Must Wear.... at SXSW

1) Must wear cuffs. Each year every music festival has a trend that is specific to that particular event. For SXSW this year, it was the cuff. There were cuffs galore. Cuff low, cuff high, cuff fancy and best of all, cuff with throwback canvas keds.

Levi's Presents Powersliding

Levi's is proud to introduce to you Powersliding...and it's not a crime. The latest event for Powersliding will be taking place April 15th at Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica CA. Powersliders will be showing off moves like the moldy smurf and the rusty rose in classic 501s. It should be fun to watch. At the very least there will be some scenes worthy of America's Funniest Videos.

Levi's Costumes "Hair" the Musical in Denim

Returning to Broadway this week, the ground-breaking musical Hair is partnering with iconic denim brand Levi's to create authentic looks for the cast's key costumes.  The Levi's brand set the precedent for style in the free-spirited 1960's, so featuring Levi’s jeans as the predominant look worn by the cast of Hair is an authentic and natural fit.  In order to channel the eccentric bohemian style of the 1960’s, costume designer Michael McDonald looked to Levi’s® extensive Archive of vintage denim.  Based on his research, McDonald chose to work with products deeply rooted in Levi's® heritage. In addition to working closely with Hair costume designer Michael McDonald, the Levi's brand is celebrating Hair’s triumphant return to Broadway by sponsoring the show.

Att10278"The Levi's® brand is excited to be a part of the highly anticipated Broadway revival of Hair Our brand’s impact on the style and times of the late 1960’s was a profound one, so the Levi’s® jeans and Hair relationship truly is an authentic, perfect fit,” says Robert Hanson, President of Levi Strauss Americas.  “What’s even more interesting is that the Levi’s® jeans featured in Hair, much like the themes explored in the show, are as relevant today as they were 40 years ago.”

Diesel Planet's FIVE on FIFTH

Picture 2

The wait is almost over for the opening of the Diesel Planet store on New York's Fifth Avenue and if it's anything like the one in Milan it's sure to be a treat. This Tuesday (also the day of the Diesel Black Gold runway show), the new store will officially open, but in true Diesel fashion it's going to be one heck of a show.

The cover will come down to unveil store windows set up to look like an apartment by day (radiator, brick wall, fire escape) and dining room by night where dinner will be served promptly at 8p. Dining in the 'apartment' will be such fashion industry boldfacers like Ritchie Rich of Heatherette fame and the inimitable Amanda Lepore. While we watch, they will be served from the menu of Le Cirque and Cipriani's. Make sure you walk by the window before February 20th because then it's all over. Here's a chance to channel your inner voyeur and feel no shame.

DenimHunt on Facebook

Picture 5 We get emails all the time from people that have specific questions about denim; whether it's about a certain style or specific brand, or what's the best fit for a particular body type. We read every single one and it never ceases to amaze us how knowledgeable our readers are and how serious they are in expanding that knowledge. As we all know, denim has moved beyond workwear apparel into a full blown lifestyle that has its own, dare I say it, culture. The plethora of styles, washes and finishings available are mind-blowing and while some pairs may break the bank, the workmanship that goes into producing them justify the price. Even those few holdouts that turned their noses up at the price tag when premium jeans became the standard several years ago have become true believers, thanks to that all important characteristic that you only get in the finest pair of jeans...fit

Now that we've had a moment on our soapbox we'd like to introduce you to our new DenimHunt Facebook Group. Okay, okay so it's not that new, but we've been so busy trying to keep you updated on the latest and greatest in the industry that we haven't had time to tell you about it. We would like this group to be a forum where you can talk with other denim aficionados from around the world. As much as we like to think of ourselves as the go-to-people for the best information in denim, the best source is you guys and your word-of-mouth. Post pictures, start discussions, let your fellow denimhunters know what's going on in your neck of the woods. Look for the link on the left to join. We hope you have fun and enjoy it.

Tom Ford and the $990 Jeans

10-29-07-tom-ford

Recession. What recession? If you live in the world of Tom Ford than it doesn't exist. And to prove it, the man himself has just launched a line of jeans that will retail for a jaw-dropping $990. The jeans will be made of pre-washed/pre-shrunk Japanese selvage denim that will have the look of raw denim, but without the side-effects such as indigo bleed. In addition, the pockets are lined with the finest silk and the button closure is plated with 18-karat gold. Men will have the option of black or white as well as the traditional indigo color to compliment their wardrobes. We are dying to see what a pair of $990 jeans looks like, and when we do, you will too. Stay tuned...
