V Magazine and...Gisele

Giselle_v_magazine_cover

Gisele Bundchen graces the cover of the next issue of V Magazine and we are soooo glad she wore denim so we could talk about it. We know, we know. There's barely enough denim to...well...do just about anything with. But who cares! It's Gisele! The photos were shot by Mario Testino and according to Gisele "Only Mario could make me take those pictures". Highlights from the interview are posted on the web, but there's one statement alone that stands out to us.

"I work in fashion but I’m not really a fashion person. I don’t follow trends. I couldn’t tell you which designer made that shoe or that bag. I like jeans. I like comfortable clothes. I’m all for feeling good in what you wear."

Other topics she discussed were her views about celebrity, the paparazzi and her passion for the environment. I think many people will be pleasantly surprised by what she has to say. Below are more photos from the shoot. If you want to see the uncensored shots than buy the magazine. Otherwise, boys and girls...commence drooling.

Agyness and Elsa

Agyness_lily_elsa

If you haven't heard of Top Model Agyness Deyn than you must be living under a rock. Agyness has firmly established herself as fashion's new "It" girl and rightly so. Shunning mainstream trends, she has created a look all her own. Here she's seen walking through the streets of London with sky blue, faded, jeans. Abrasions at the knee (and other unusual places for abrasions), make the denim appear worn and moth eaten. Rolling them up to show off the top of her patent-leather, white, Doc Martens complete the look. BFF-of-the-moment Lily Allen shows off her DIY skills by cutting the bottom of her dark indigo skirt dangerously high. Runway model Elsa Sylvan's appearance shows us that Agyness isn't the only model not following the crowd. We love how Elsa pulls off "Mom" jeans. 80's-style, acid wash make these jeans an authentic throwback. Patches inspired by advertisements from your local Mom and Pop store add color and interest.

Here's Heidi!

Heidiklumforjordachejeans

Heidi Klum for Jordache
is now available at both Bloomingdales and online at Jordache.com .  This is a great brand trying to bring back their glory of the 80’s, by using Heidi Klum as part of their campaign.  We haven't worn a pair in a while, but look forward to trying their new styles soon. Jordache was a leader in fit and color when denim was first emerging as a premium fashion staple.

Our favorite Chloe

Chloe
One of our favorites, style icon Chloe Sevigny, is featured in The New York Times Style section through an excerpt from T Magazine. The video snippet found online ( NYTimes ) carries you through her very first headshot to her many red carpet moments. Highlighting her first turns toward fashion, as an intern at Sassy Magazine and modeling for Mui Mui in 1996, the quick clip also has nods to her acting career.

For the complete video, check out T Magazine's exclusive films.

Travels with Kate

Kate_moss

Kate Moss will launch her 5th collection for UK based TopShop tomorrow, March 18th. As a global fashion icon and traveler, Kate was inspired by her time spent in Ibiza, Miami and India for the Spring 2008 collection entitled, A Bohemian Summer. Filled with dusty shades and soft, lightweight fabrics, this is the perfect mix of style and comfort for the summer season. We caught a sneak-peek of some pieces, which included boot-cut denim and Aztec printed cotton tops. There is also a promise from Miss Kate of some evening wear for the season. Just as always, she covers all the fashion bases!

Bilson will create a junior sportswear line called Edie Rose for DKNY Jeans, which will be reaching the stores in September. Kate's the new Kate: Kate Bosworth joins CK Jeans

CkjeansKate Bosworth is the new face of Calvin Klein Jeans. While Kate Moss will always be our #1 Kate of the iconic Calvin campaigns, Bosworth perfectly embodies the carefree American spirit of CK jeans.

Kate Moss in Diesel

Kate_moss_dieselWe were cruisin' one of our favorite sites, Jezebel.com, and saw this amazing photo of Kate Moss. Sure, she can do no wrong, but with all the skinny jeans, wide-legged jeans, high waist jeans, it's nice to see a good ole pair of dark wash bootcuts.

What do you think? Is it time to return to the basics?

Lou Doillin + Lee Cooper= <3

Ldss08Lou Doillon, model and daughter of legendary fashion icon, Jane Birkin, has partnered with British brand, Lee Cooper for a three year collaboration.

"Like everyone, I've had loads of denim in my time, but being asked to design my own range of clothes with Lee Cooper is a really exciting challenge. It's an opportunity to take a material everyone knows, and treat it in ways that nobody would ever expect," says Doillon of the collection.

Italia Independent does denim

IilapoIt's no secret that we're huge fans of Lapo Elkann. This time around we are happy to announce his product line, Italia Independent, launched additional items this past week in Milan. Other than providing Lapo with plenty of photo ops, the line looks truly innovative. Previously comprised exclusively of space-age carbon fiber sunglasses, the collection now offers duffel bags made of Kevlar, canldesticks (shown above,) and a series of artist-designed fabric vases. Of course, what we're most excited about are his cotton/linen blend jeans. Iijeans_4

The jeans are made on a handloom with details such as hand carved horn buttons evoking the spirit of screen star Steve McQueen. Coming in around 300 euros, they balance the fine line of affordable luxury.

Restoration of the Monarchy dinner at Freeman's

RotmdinnerOne of the highlights of New York Fashion Week was the VIP studded dinner at Freeman's in celebration of Eric Villency's new denim line, Restoration of the Monarchy. Not only were we excited about the collection, but we desperately needed a full meal of mac & cheese before hitting Alexander Wang's all-nighter. Fashion's who's-who were there including Tara Subkoff, Leelee Sobieski, Terry Richardson, Byrdie Bell, Jim Shi of Fashion Week Daily, and of course Olivier Zahm, editor-in-chief of Purple.

Restoration of the Monarchy features premium jeans made in the USA from Kentucky-manufactured denim. Concentration is placed on clean washes and sharp silhouettes with our favorite being the white sailor jeans Julia wore to the dinner and the jumpsuit she wears in the ad campaign.

Want to see the line? Check out the fall issue of Purple magazine, co-host of the event and first magazine to feature the ad campaign featuring Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, daughter of the queen of chic, Vogue Paris editor, Carine Roitfeld. Or, visit Restoration of the Monarchy.

Warhol Facotry X Damien Hirst X Levi's presentation

Levisss08First we were in awe of all the downtown notables in the crowd. Vincent Gallo, Casey Spooner, Larry Clark, Waris, DJs Andrew Andrew, Miss Guy, Kim Hastreiter, and Dani Stahl were all there and the creme de la creme, MK Olsen was only a runway's width across from us. Then we were blown away by Levi's latest collection.

Given the vague description of the collection sent to press earlier, we were leery of crystal skulls embellishing denim. But, king of the skulls, Damien Hirst, saved the day. The collection beautifully incorporated Hirst signatures such as the crystal skulls, rainbow dots, and knives. Even more exciting was the unisex skinny collection and the bondage styles. Our favorite pieces were the skinny bondage pant and moto jumpsuits. Oh, and of course our top model of the season.

Repetto opening at Earnest Sewn

Repetto_collageTopping our Wednesday night was a stop at An Earnest Cut & Sew's flagship store in the Meatpacking district. Last night's event celebrated the launch of Repetto's first US retail outlet. Hosted by Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Waris, and Jessica Stam, the event was attended by fashion's most well-known faces. Cutie patooties, Cory Kennedy and Mark Hunter were there, as were Tinsley Mortimer and Derek Blasberg.

The pics above (excuse our amateur photog skills) are of the installation created for the gallery space, as well as a few of the offerings exclusive to the Earnest Sewn pop-up.

Rag & Bone SS08

RbcollageYesterday we hit up one of our favorite design teams, Rag & Bone, at Cipriani. Other than eye candy like Kate Bosworth, Jamie Burke, Mya, and Amanda Peet, we saw fashion heavy hitters like Cathy Horyn, Dani Stahl (congrats on the position!), and Grace Coddington as well as our favorite photog, Scott Schuman.

The men's collection took a cue from Thom Browne with cropped hemlines in khaki hues with accents of blue. Always a collection of updated classics, our favorite pieces were the coated cotton windbreakers that looked as if they were made from the most lightweight leather imaginable.

For women's, the menswear inspired pieces followed the same neutral color palette with highlights in blue seersucker. Our top look was the black bikini topped with a coated cotton mac--much more beach chic than neon florals and pareros.

Blind Item: Everyday favorite

Which half of a Hollywood power-couple can't get enough Rag & Bone? Word is he wears it almost everyday. Perhaps the background of their name, often credited as one of the first forms of recycling in England, has something to do with the attraction, even more than their acclaimed designs?

Pax Jolie-Pitt in Lit'l Earnies

We're aware that we posted a TON of Earnest Sewn news last week. However, even we have a soft spot for Angelina & Brad's son, Pax, rockin' his Lit'l Earnies on the playground in NYC.

Danielle Clarke does Ditto

Dittos_2Last year we worked with Danielle Clarke in partnership with her line, Frankie B. and their breast cancer efforts with Her2Genes. The event in which her iconic husband, Gilby Clarke of GnR fame took to the stage with Velvet Revolver's Duff McKagan, was a huge success. Even more of a success was her denim collection which was so coveted attendees broke into the display and stole a dozen pairs of the limited-edition jeans.

We're convinced Clarke will have as much success with her new project, the relaunch of 70s mega-jean, Dittos. Hitting shelves this fall in a color assortment that would make Crayola jealous, Dittos will be available in their classic highwaist flare as well as more modern silhouettes such as a skinny hipster jean and a highwaisted short. For a headstart, check out RevolveClothing.com where the classic style retails for $165.

Denim gets Posh

Poshskinny_4 Poshwideleg

Our buddy Andy at Denimology has two Victoria Beckham sightings, both in Superfine jeans. These photos remind us of our Jovovich-Hawk post--skinny vs. wide-leg.

What's your favorite fit?

Kate Moss: slim but not skinny

Vogue_kate_mossKate Moss was the first to break out Superfine's Frayed Misfit jeans and by the time your local Urban Outfitters caught up to her, she was sportin' wide-legged trouser J Brand denims at TopShop's fashion show. While editorials everywhere are raving of the high-waist, retro jean, Kate again breaks away from the pack in her slim-fitting bootcut jeans outside the TopShop offices.

We'll never disagree with Kate being on a best-dressed list, but what do you think of her hybrid jeans? Are they the perfect marriage of super skinnies and billowing wide-legged denim?

Blind Item: Case of the stolen sample

Which controversial young starlet was confused at a recent photoshoot and thought by wearing a pair of jeans in a photo meant she got to keep them? She left the set with the only sample from one of our favorite denim collaborations of all time.

Leave us your guesses for the celeb and denim collaboration!

Is thin in?

Jovovich-Hawk showed both wide and skinny jeans in their Spring 2007 collections.

We saw Kate Moss in denim trousers at TopShop's Spring '07 show, and in her favorite Superfines on the street.

While skinny seems to be going strong, wider, more sophisticated styles seem to be creeping into the scene.

What do you think? Will you be rockin' your denims as tight as can be, or is wide-leg where it's at?

Mischa Barton: high-waist jean

Mischa_highwaist_1Mischa Barton was out and about in LA recently sporting a fresh take on the skinny jean trend. With a straight-leg cut and a higher waist, we love her leg-lengthing denim.

She paired her denim perfectly with a casual belt and cotton voile top. Casual, yet chic, dark washed denims and a breezey top effortlessly replace the legging and tunic trend. Mischa's a perfect example of why we're looking forward to Spring!

What do you think? Will your waistband be creeping upwards this season?
