Shades of Summer

Shades_2

White denim is one summer tradition we love, but this season has some other super light shades to offer. With a lot of color choices out there, we rounded up some of our favorites to help put you on the right track. Acne Jeans’ new Generic Girl Peach is a soft and luscious color ripe for the summer. Hudson’s Signature Bootcut in Misty is a beautiful alternative to the surplus of grey tones in the market.  Looking for the ultimate jean to pair with a simple white tank and sun hat, check out Earnest Sewn. Their wideleg sailor cut, in Milky Japanese rigid denim, is a clear call to the lazy days of summer.

NEW Denim Fit Guide

Fitguide_2

Our fellow denim bloggers tipped us off to a new fit guide, found at eLuxury. Featuring specific guidelines for some of the best styles, from some of our favorite brands. Earlier this month, we suggested another way to find your best denim fit through Glam. Now there is no excuse for the wrong size...and no excuse not to buy another pair for the season!

The AG-ed process produces true 3-dimensional creases on the jeans, hand sanding and whiskering covering the snug silhouette. Another perk is that each jean i s customized to the consumers preferred year of wear! AG-ed is offered in 3 Years AG-ed, 6 Years AG-ed, 16 Years AG-ed and 25 Years AG-ed, however moving forward the collection will be offered in 1 - 30 Years AG-ed. A True Gentleman

Porter_2

We're always looking for a man who knows how to dress best in denim, so naturally we were intrigued when we saw this article in the UK's Telegraph. Drainpipes are for boys - men's jeans need pleats goes right along with all the buzz about the return of bespoke fashions in menswear. But, wait a minute, pleats? Yep, Acne Jeans does it right with The Gentleman's Jean. This aptly named style is high-waisted with subtle pleats and is a more comfortable fit than those tired old cigarette legs. Uh, hi, do you come here often?

The Future of Denim

Denimfuture1

This may not be the most practical pair of jeans that we've seen lately, but they are still pretty impressive. Designer Erik De Nijs has created the most technologically advanced denim to date. At first, you'll notice the obviously awkwardly placed keyboard! Next, you'll find the speakers built into the knees, so you can rock down the street without those white earphones.  And finally, there is the computer mouse in the back pocket . Go, go gadget denim!

[deener]

Deener_2 Deener2_3

One of our new favorite denim brands is [deener]. Designed & finished in Los Angeles, CA with
custom-designed hardware from Argentina, [deener] offers high style and quality in craftsmanship.
Ya-el Torabati, [deener] designer and creator, was born in Jerusalem and raised in New Orleans, so each design has a unique influence from her cultures. The line’s name is somewhat inspired by a miniature dachshund named, Willard also known as, deener. For this season, some of the best denim can be found from this fresh faced brand, like the lightweight swing jacket, jumper shorts and a sassy wide leg trouser.

Ksubi Design

News859

We love Ksubi denim, but now we have a new reason for our fandom. They have just won an Interior Design Award for their new store, The Bombed Mache. Created in part with Herbert & Mason architects, they formed a completely sustainable shop to house their latest collections. Working together, they were able to make a truly customized space with nearly eighty percent of the store being made from recycled materials. The Bombed Marche is still able to act as a temporary locale and art space, with the interiors constantly changing. This is more than a cool pop-up design store and Ksubi, as always, is ahead of the design game!

We’re always looking for denim that pushes the limits, so of course, we are in love with the Spring 2008 dresses from Seven for All Mankind. This one shoulder indigo party dress is perfect for our next night out. Not only is it a sexy short length, but check out that adorable jeweled detail. It has hidden side pockets too!

Mulberry denim

Mulb3

We just got a hot tip from our friends at Denimology...the latest collection from Mulberry. Check out these hot pieces from one of our favorite British brands. The charmed denim Bayswater bag, based on one of their most popular leather styles, the loose jeans with a bow-tie waist and the jumpsuit in light blue denim. Mulberry is not only known for great fashion and handbags, but also collaborates with some of today's most influential up-and-coming artists of London. The Bond Street store is gearing up to combine a gallery space with extraordinary rotating exhibitions.  Mulberry

Issey Miyake

Isseyjpg_4

Check out these awesome jeans at Issey Miyake. Sometimes guys don't have as many fashion choices as women, but that doesn't seem to apply to denim. This unique pair features a 'skeletal' effect through bleaching. It may sound a little questionable at first, but the effect is very subtle.  The inspiration is hardly noticeable at first and the black denim keeps it sleek for the not-so-fashion-friendly guy who wants to tap into his coolness. EDWIN

Edwinjpg

One of our favorite Japanese Denim companies, Edwin, has announced the launch of a new collection for fall. This small collection is vintage inspired and will include 5 styles for men and 3 for women, with various unique finishes, like stain washes and distressed denim. Edwin is famous for their innovative vision when it comes to denim and we hope that this is the beginning of many more capsule collections from their designers. Check it out online, especially if you aren't in Europe - the only place to find these jeans at retail...for now.

From Blue to Green

Bltogr

We are gearing up for Earth Day (April 22nd) here at Denim Hunt and this is the best plan yet! Earlier we reported on the Make an Earnest  Difference event happening in NYC, which required an old pair of jeans for entry. It was a huge success! As you can see in the photo above, the Cotton From Blue to Green campaign collected hundreds of jeans that night, which will now be recycled into environmentally safe insulation for homes. We've since learned that GUESS will partner with Cotton From Blue to Green by sponsoring a denim drive, between April 19th and April 26th, in select GUESS retail locations. In exchange for the donation they are offering a 10% discount towards your next purchase of denim. Now Mother Earth can benefit AND you get a new discounted pair as replacement. What could be better? For more information, check out GUESS or go here to learn more ways to participate in Cotton From Blue to Green. You can also enter to win a Glam to Green trip to New York City, courtesy of Cotton and Glamour Magazine. Check it out: COTTON

The World of Blue Jeans

World

TIME Magazine has a photo essay on The World of Blue Jeans. The pics are amazing! This feature shows the steps taken to create denim for discount retailers to runway designers, while offering a global perspective of the levels within the industry. Gain insight on the indigo dying process in China to a famous model in Germany...just another fascinating aspect of denim!

On the Street

5th

We caught this pic from our friends at The Sartorialist. Since we touched on our love for tie-dyed denim over the weekend, we thought this was a cool approach. The overcoat could've stayed home, but take a closer look, to see how this stylish New Yorker is working some yellow onto his black denim. This is a great method to test out the trend in a very subtle, but fun way. Oh, and the ladies love a man in a hat!

blessed denim

Sapphire_2

Denim is currently available in a rainbow of colors, so we wanted to advise our readers of a stand-out choice. Bishop of Seventh, which is known for precise tailoring and unique details, offers Sapphire blue in their Cashmere Twill style. This color is gorgeous! The jean isn't blended with cashmere, but incorporates a specially treated yarn to give it the ultra-smooth texture of your favorite sweater. We've been fans of this brand for awhile because of the variety of pocket designs throughout the line. Although the brand is based in LA, the husband and wife design team of Chachi Prasad and Karam Kim, met and fell in love in NYC. Their story is told through the collection...how sweet!

Fit to be Tie-Dyed

Ferg

We've been turned on to tie-dye denim since we spotted it emerging last year. So, of course, we are happy to report we've seen it on the streets in sunny Los Angeles. Fergie, seen here strutting her stuff on Rodeo Drive, is wearing our favorite spring look.  Dressing-up this twisted jean is the freshest new alternative to plain dark indigo denim. We love this sophisticated take on the t-shirt finish!

Built by Wendy

Wendy

We love this cute denim fanny pack from Built by Wendy. Retailing for only $50 and offered in indigo denim, railroad striped denim and natural canvas, this is quite a steal! Perfect as a spring alternative to that heavy shoulder bag. Doesn't it look sweet on this plain cotton dress? Simple, smart styling.

Make an Earnest Difference

Earnjpg
National Jean Company, The Earnest Sewn Company and Cotton Incorporated have teamed up for an exciting event! As part of the ongoing efforts to raise awareness of the eco-benefits of recycled denim, Make an Earnest Difference is happening tonight in NYC. Guests are required to bring an old pair of jeans for entry, which will be donated to Cotton. From Blue to Green, which transforms old denim into environmentally safe insulation for homes. There will also be a runway show featuring some of the hottest denim brands out there....we can't wait to see!

Stella.

Stella
Along with many other collaborations she has on the burner, Stella McCartney is pairing up with Notify Jeans. The designer and the Paris based label are to create a co-branded denim collection.  The jeans are expected to be in stores this coming November and will retail somewhere between $375-$395.  A percentage of the profits from this denim collection will be donated to animal rights charities. Spring into the 70's

Now, don’t go and throw away all those skinny jeans just yet, but 70’s inspired fashion is invading this spring. We’re not talking straight-up bell-bottoms, disco glamour or polyester suits, but instead, the ease and comfort inspired by the original hippy generation. We’ve heard about the resurgence of wide-leg trousers and seen plenty of Bianca Jagger-esque floppy hats on the runways, but there is plenty of ways to navigate this trend and add key pieces to your wardrobe. Don’t be afraid, we’re thinking more Charlie’s Angels and less Saturday Night Fever.
70_2
We want to be sure to point out why we are so excited to see this silhouette back in action. With high-waists ruling this style, our mid-section will surely be minimized, while our legs are lengthened. Be sure to wear these pants with nothing flatter than a wedge heel or platform shoe to not lose any of the long and lean look. As we mentioned the influx of wide-leg denim from many designer’s, some of our favorite’s are Found Denim’s Agatha Hip Hugger, Stephenson Denim Finery’s Mercer Fisherman Jean and LA-based Pur Premium Denim’s Grace pin tuck trouser.

Marithé + François Girbaud

Mfg
Marithé + François Girbaud is creating a new premium line, LegEnd. The French label is trying to move from classic pants with  five-pocket styling and redesigning with some of their coolest inventions from Girbaud's “Jeanovation.” These jeans are available in three to four treatments, come in two lengths and have metallic studs on the back pockets. The innovative label will also be launching a new luxury designer line and plans to expand retail operations worldwide.

One of a Kind

Levisneak
We reported earlier on the iconic Converse celebrating its 100th anniversary, but now we have something of a similar breed to get happy feet. Levi's has collected jeans that have been worn, recycled the material and reconstructed the denim into something unique: a series of denim sneakers. These shoes are one of a kind, since the pieces being used are all different sections of denim pants and each shoe is handmade so each sneaker will have a different contruction. These reincarnations of your favorite 501s  will be hard to find since they will be limited to 300 pairs.

Schultz Jeans

Schultz, The British based jeans and underwear brand, are making men's jeans that are designed to be worn low and open at the fly to show off your underwear, which you can also by from them. They are so keen on helping young men expose themselves that they have developed an integrated strap which fits on the inside of the waistband so that you can actually wear these jeans with the fly completely open and they will still remain around the waist. Check out the cute little video for instruction...

Zac Down Under

Zacjpg
As the Zac Posen for Target collection is officially hitting stores today, we find ourselves wishing we were down under. Available only in Australia, there are two collections: Glamour and Tailored. We’ve been teased with pics of high-waisted pants and asymmetrical skirts, structured satin draped tops and cocktail dresses. The range will be priced from $49.99 to $299.99 (AUD) for a replica of a dress that actress Katherine Heigl wore to the Emmy Awards (only 50 dresses will be available). Although there is no denim in Zac’s collection, we still remain fans of his dedication to feminine tailoring. ZacForTarget
